| What's up everyone my name is Gordy Lopez also known as Flexum from Knuckleheads! I'm 26 years old coming out of the Bay Area, Santa Rosa California.
When did you started bboying and how did you get in touch with the dance ?I started dancing in the year 1994 at the age of 13 in a lil town called Winton. That's Merced county for you Cali heads! I got introduced to the dance from my boy and good friend Vietnam. Vietnam and I were in sports when we came across bboying. One day I was just passing by Nam's house and caught him doing windmills. All I remember was thinking, WTF!! Nam stopped me and got me to try it. I recall thinking that I can't do this shit! After a try or two I was hooked. Then from that day on I just stuck to it! What fascinated you the most about the dance and kept you doing your think until this day ?I'm going to say the different ways we all bboy fascinate me! I mean look at when and where it came from. How it was done to the way we do it now. Yo bboying and everything about bboying is my life! Doing this more than half my life. It keeps me on my toes as well as making me happy! Everyone out there doing what I love most keeps me doing my thing. Come on there are folks out there that just won't let you relax or slip.Bboys and Bgirls will always keep me doing my thing till I can't do it no more. You're reppin' one of the most upcoming crews worldwide, the Knuckle Heads Crew. Please tell us how u got down with them and what's the history of Knuckle Heads.
The Knuckleheads and I met in Flava Florida at Outbreak. Kid David and I flew out to enter the jam coming out with the win. The Knucks were one of the crews we had to go through. After all was said and done I connected with Mike the Cure and Albert right away. It just happen to be that The Cure was a "Only the Strong" fan like me. I remember us keeping everyone up at Mex 1's house. Soon as we got home they invited me down to L.A. to chill and meet the rest of the crew. One thing eventually led to another and things kinda just fell into place. It's no easy task tho that's for sure. KH is like a world of its own. If you don't know the jokes and insides then you most likely will be the one watching from the outside. As for the history, there tends to be a lot more than what I'll get into. To keep it short, I will say that KH started out in the valley of Southern California with members that now rep Knuckleheads in Vegas. Pretty much some moved to Vegas and created KHZOO and some stayed out here keeping KH off the radar. Who's actually reppin' Knuckle Heads? The family reppin KH these days are Millhouse, Getz Sex, Albert, Mike the Cure, Fanatic, Thesis, Paranoid Android, Arturizzo, and myself. I know there're still some people out there who're confused about the crews Knuckle Heads (formerly Knuckle Heads Cali) and the Las Vegas crew Knuckle Head Zoo, so please tell the story about the split up and how the situation is with the 2 crews. Well aside from what I mentioned in question number 4, I will pretty much sum it up by saying both our crews have 2 completely different approaches to the dance. Both crews kept close for some time but eventually we branched off into our own. They wanted to take their dance into a different path as we pretty much stuck with what accommodated our lifestyles as well. Obviously there were quite a few disagreements and for a while things got pretty heated but out of self-respect, I'm not gonna knock anyone or anything. Simply we do what we do how we do it for our own reasons. Ain't nothing or anyone going to change that. How does a practice for you guys look like? You have so many different types of dancers in the crew, some are down with the abstract style like Mike or PA, some flexible and acrobatic types like Fanatic and Bert, some all-rounded Bboys like you and Thesis... there's so much talent. How do you guys practice ?Hahahaha! A practice for us consist of laughs and laughs! We are all located up and down the west coast. So its hard for us to practice all at the same time. I don't believe we have all gotten together for one full practice. The practices that some of us are together for, are just crazy! We push each other to the extreme. Never letting the other quit! Hands down our best practices. Everyone doing there own style helps us be more creative with our own. All I have to say is sit through one session and see what a Knuckle Head goes through! You're very young but still made a big impact on the bboy scene this year. Congratulations. You came out strong in a lot of competitions lately. Which event did you enjoy the most this year ?
Hands down Furious Styles 14th Ann! The reason for that is because I had my whole crew together for the first time. That has been my dream since I have been in the crew. Just to battle once side by side with all of KH! To top it off we got the win over Killafornia. The last time we battled (TopDog) they won us in the finals. So to end the event with the win and the whole KH family by my side is why that was my best event! Which battle in your career so far was the best in your opinion or is just outstanding and for which reason ?I don't believe I can say I have had my best battle yet. I have had some great battles but nothing to the point where I feel I have had my best battle. If I was to say a battle it would be F.S.C. 14 cause I was with my crew. Or King of Cali due to the fact that I was sick the whole time! Besides bboying, what do you love to do in your free time ? Well if anyone knows me I like to either sit at home and watch 80's/90's movies all day! Or if I'm around the area ill snowboard, wakeboard. Anything out doors! Time to time ill go rep in the house circles! Seeing peeps get down in those circles is dope! I mean I'm just like all of yall I do what you do. Just with a Flexum twist. You're together with a very talented B-girl, B-girl Citrus. Id your relationship all about dancing? How do you guys manage to just chill and relax besides all the events, trips and practices ?Aww man Trino (Citrus) and I went through a lot in "07". It wasn't all about the dance, she was just someone that did the same thing I did! When it came down to chilling and relaxing all we had to do was call up the Ino crew (Rainen, Belle, Saso, Eddie, Clauds) and it would all fall into place! Our trips together are tough. Evolution 3 was our craziest trip. And I have to say to you that citrus and I were in the middle of a strip boxing fools down the street. She has been my right hand women! Sorry to say that we are no longer together. We are still very close and best friends! Now with this year coming to an end, what are your wishes for 2008 ? My wishes for "08" are simple. I want to enter as many crew battles with the new KnuckleHeads crew! I want to travel to other countries to show them what I have and compete. There are so many that don't know me and my style. Would be happy knowing that I gave it all and have no regrets. I know a lot of cats out there dig your style and the way you present yourself in the ciphers, do you have any advices for the younger generation and the upcoming Bboys ?
That is easy, BE YOURSELF!! I now everyone says that and it means nothing. I have learned over the years that your only going to happy if you dance the way YOU want to! You have to remember why you started dancing and who for. Don't let anyone tell you other wise! Keep training, keep dancing, keep bboying!! Everyone goes through hard times in the scene. When you get knocked down, Stand up and come back for more! Any last shout outs ?First off thanks to Carsten for pushing to do this interview.
