flexum interview with jive core shout out

Flexum, Knuckle Heads // USA

Flexum - Knuckle HeadsWhat's up everyone my name is Gordy Lopez also known as Flexum from Knuckleheads! I'm 26 years old coming out of the Bay Area, Santa Rosa California.

When did you started bboying and how did you get in touch with the dance ?

I started dancing in the year 1994 at the age of 13 in a lil town called Winton. That's Merced county for you Cali heads! I got introduced to the dance from my boy and good friend Vietnam. Vietnam and I were in sports when we came across bboying. One day I was just passing by Nam's house and caught him doing windmills. All I remember was thinking, WTF!! Nam stopped me and got me to try it. I recall thinking that I can't do this shit! After a try or two I was hooked. Then from that day on I just stuck to it!

What fascinated you the most about the dance and kept you doing your think until this day ?

I'm going to say the different ways we all bboy fascinate me! I mean look at when and where it came from. How it was done to the way we do it now. Yo bboying and everything about bboying is my life! Doing this more than half my life. It keeps me on my toes as well as making me happy! Everyone out there doing what I love most keeps me doing my thing. Come on there are folks out there that just won't let you relax or slip.Bboys and Bgirls will always keep me doing my thing till I can't do it no more.

Flexum - Knuckle HeadsYou're reppin' one of the most upcoming crews worldwide, the Knuckle Heads Crew. Please tell us how u got down with them and what's the history of Knuckle Heads.

The Knuckleheads and I met in Flava Florida at Outbreak. Kid David and I flew out to enter the jam coming out with the win. The Knucks were one of the crews we had to go through. After all was said and done I connected with Mike the Cure and Albert right away. It just happen to be that The Cure was a "Only the Strong" fan like me. I remember us keeping everyone up at Mex 1's house. Soon as we got home they invited me down to L.A. to chill and meet the rest of the crew. One thing eventually led to another and things kinda just fell into place. It's no easy task tho that's for sure. KH is like a world of its own. If you don't know the jokes and insides then you most likely will be the one watching from the outside. As for the history, there tends to be a lot more than what I'll get into. To keep it short, I will say that KH started out in the valley of Southern California with members that now rep Knuckleheads in Vegas. Pretty much some moved to Vegas and created KHZOO and some stayed out here keeping KH off the radar.

Who's actually reppin' Knuckle Heads?

The family reppin KH these days are Millhouse, Getz Sex, Albert, Mike the Cure, Fanatic, Thesis, Paranoid Android, Arturizzo, and myself.

I know there're still some people out there who're confused about the crews Knuckle Heads (formerly Knuckle Heads Cali) and the Las Vegas crew Knuckle Head Zoo, so please tell the story about the split up and how the situation is with the 2 crews.

Well aside from what I mentioned in question number 4, I will pretty much sum it up by saying both our crews have 2 completely different approaches to the dance. Both crews kept close for some time but eventually we branched off into our own. They wanted to take their dance into a different path as we pretty much stuck with what accommodated our lifestyles as well. Obviously there were quite a few disagreements and for a while things got pretty heated but out of self-respect, I'm not gonna knock anyone or anything. Simply we do what we do how we do it for our own reasons. Ain't nothing or anyone going to change that.

How does a practice for you guys look like? You have so many different types of dancers in the crew, some are down with the abstract style like Mike or PA, some flexible and acrobatic types like Fanatic and Bert, some all-rounded Bboys like you and Thesis... there's so much talent. How do you guys practice ?

Hahahaha! A practice for us consist of laughs and laughs! We are all located up and down the west coast. So its hard for us to practice all at the same time. I don't believe we have all gotten together for one full practice. The practices that some of us are together for, are just crazy! We push each other to the extreme. Never letting the other quit! Hands down our best practices. Everyone doing there own style helps us be more creative with our own. All I have to say is sit through one session and see what a Knuckle Head goes through!

Flexum - Knuckle HeadsYou're very young but still made a big impact on the bboy scene this year. Congratulations. You came out strong in a lot of competitions lately. Which event did you enjoy the most this year ?

Hands down Furious Styles 14th Ann! The reason for that is because I had my whole crew together for the first time. That has been my dream since I have been in the crew. Just to battle once side by side with all of KH! To top it off we got the win over Killafornia. The last time we battled (TopDog) they won us in the finals. So to end the event with the win and the whole KH family by my side is why that was my best event!

Which battle in your career so far was the best in your opinion or is just outstanding and for which reason ?

I don't believe I can say I have had my best battle yet. I have had some great battles but nothing to the point where I feel I have had my best battle. If I was to say a battle it would be F.S.C. 14 cause I was with my crew. Or King of Cali due to the fact that I was sick the whole time!

Besides bboying, what do you love to do in your free time ?

Well if anyone knows me I like to either sit at home and watch 80's/90's movies all day! Or if I'm around the area ill snowboard, wakeboard. Anything out doors! Time to time ill go rep in the house circles! Seeing peeps get down in those circles is dope! I mean I'm just like all of yall I do what you do. Just with a Flexum twist.

You're together with a very talented B-girl, B-girl Citrus. Id your relationship all about dancing? How do you guys manage to just chill and relax besides all the events, trips and practices ?

Aww man Trino (Citrus) and I went through a lot in "07". It wasn't all about the dance, she was just someone that did the same thing I did! When it came down to chilling and relaxing all we had to do was call up the Ino crew (Rainen, Belle, Saso, Eddie, Clauds) and it would all fall into place! Our trips together are tough. Evolution 3 was our craziest trip. And I have to say to you that citrus and I were in the middle of a strip boxing fools down the street. She has been my right hand women! Sorry to say that we are no longer together. We are still very close and best friends!

Now with this year coming to an end, what are your wishes for 2008 ?

My wishes for "08" are simple. I want to enter as many crew battles with the new KnuckleHeads crew! I want to travel to other countries to show them what I have and compete. There are so many that don't know me and my style. Would be happy knowing that I gave it all and have no regrets.

Flexum - Knuckle HeadsI know a lot of cats out there dig your style and the way you present yourself in the ciphers, do you have any advices for the younger generation and the upcoming Bboys ?

That is easy, BE YOURSELF!! I now everyone says that and it means nothing. I have learned over the years that your only going to happy if you dance the way YOU want to! You have to remember why you started dancing and who for. Don't let anyone tell you other wise! Keep training, keep dancing, keep bboying!! Everyone goes through hard times in the scene. When you get knocked down, Stand up and come back for more!

Any last shout outs ?

First off thanks to Carsten for pushing to do this interview. Shout outs to style2ouf, my crew (KNUCKLEHEADS), 5150, Project: I, Furious Styles, Massive Monkees, Lost Tribe, Mind180, Havikoro, Ground F/X, Unique Styles, Skill Methodz, Renegades, Headhunters, Jive Core, Rock Force, Frank Dux, Rock So Fresh, RatPack, Bolo Yeung, United, Brickheadz, Angels of Death, Billy's Mother, CROS, BBoyHowdown, Beatz N Pieces, Dirty Hands, Universal Zulu Kings, Sour Patch, Stylelements, Killafornia, Jean-Claude Van Damage, Underground Flow, Reprezent Clothing, Panic39, Forensiks, Street Masters, Funky Grossangriff, Flipside Kings, Masters of Mayhem, Motion Disorders, Bobby Morgan, New B Wear Allstars, Suicide Kings, Full Force, Flex Flave, Circle of Fire, Willow, Tracy Chapman, Battle Monkees, Hybrid, Flava Squad, and last but not least to anyone I might have missed…East, West, North, South, Earth, Moon, Stars, Wind, and Sunshine which creates a little thing called……….SECK-SHOO-AL-EH-TEE! Peace. FLEXUM!

"this is bullshit. this is fucking bullshit."

thats what i said to myself when i logged into xanga.  and just before logging into xanga i was saying out loud how gay facebook is for adding the user name feature...

so facebook is the new myspace and myspace is the new facebook and twitter is the new xanga. and xanga is the new facebook

why?  because originally facebook was its own shit.  myspace was biting the apps and the layout and all that, but now you can add the user name and that was the diffinitive thing.  so fuck facebook.

myspace is facebook because it bites everything.

and twitter is xanga because you can do nothing but update words.

i used to log into xanga to reflect on life and how id grown immediately upon signing in, by seeing my previous posts.  but now, i get read everyone elses posts.  great.  i really dont care that much about you.  i subscribe to you because either 1) you cross my mind and i would like to quickly skim through your posts to see how youre doing.  or 2) youre funny.  thats it.

moreso i dont care about what you have to say about other peoples blogs.  so fuck this.  internet sucks.

Evolution of Full Force

(from FullForceCrew.com)

Evolution of Full Force

The history of the crew started from the rough suburbs of Las Vegas. To be honest, the only thing rough about the Las Vegas suburbs was the desert heat the crew had to endure during outdoor practices and battles.
It was the year 1995. I got 5 on it, Here comes the hot stepper, I'll make love to you, Candy rain, Big Poppa, and Tootsee Roll were a few songs of that period - can you remember what you were doing then? Well these kids were dancing and getting ready to build a family, create a lifetime of memories, opportunities, and their mark on the Las Vegas B-boy scene.
The original Full Force B-boy Crew started in West Covina, California (timeline and history unverifiable). On January 3, 1995, Rodolfo Jr. received an opportunity to establish the crews name to his native city of Las Vegas by his cousin Ryan Arcilla who was an active member of the California chapter. There was no hesitation on Rodolfo’s part. It was the Las Vegas chapter that took the name and evolved it to what it is today – and so it began!
Rodolfo Abaldonado Jr. took the name and proposed the idea to start up this new crew with the crew’s first 2 and founding members – his brother Ronnie Abaldonado (Ronnie Boy) and close friend Rock Gallego. Most of the original and new members came from known Las Vegas crews.

    Killa4nia History by Vietnam

Killafornia was a name that the guys established during an East Coast tour 9 years ago . These guys were Lil Rock,Reveal,Manson,Ruen,Jetik,Mosquito,Steelo and others. Manson created the name originally, him being the crafty- metaphoric type. Luckily through my dance work, WSS a company I was performing and marketing for out in LA,my boss asked me to make a team to battle and show in the East Coast from LA. I couldn't go to the east coast for the month due to my busy dance schedule, so I had my boss call my friends to get this show going. (He was so mad that he had to pay Reveal 400? but that is another story). Most of us were friends some dating back to 96'97. In those days, we would all practice in garages and hang out during this time, taking trains, and Hondas to get to each other and jams across CA and the US. When I was attending college in San Diego at the time I met,Reveal,Cros,Manson,Rainen, and instantly we became friends and trained hard. I'd go with Cros one or others to jam with everyone else and throughout CA and the nation and we would make mini-crews under different monikers. Names like CaliTexas at FS 6 or Dirty Dozens or even Poe came up with a Killa Cali one time. We knew Jetik and Tails and Lil Rock since 97 when we met them at the summit. Through battles, jams and practice we would meet new people and if they were fresh, and the vibe was right, we would come together and battle heads in the circle. We were just trying to put it down for our reputation. We loved to ripp it in the circle. I met Steelo and Mosquito in LA and they had a cool vibe so we chilled out and practiced together much, especially me and Mosquito, winning hella 2 on 2's ! Frankie got down like 2003 as he was hungry to prove himself. Crumbs joined forces in 2004. Junior,Friction,Moy,Machine were after. Nabil and Farid too. We were always pretty much a crew, yet the moniker Killafornia was the dopest name created for us and just summed it up for what we are about. Killas from CA......
